April 2026 — Hiking the Peach Rock Course (Momoiwa)
Every spring we need to check the safety of the various trekking courses on the island.
The first course we checked was the Peach Rock course called the Momoiwa trail course in the brochure.
We started our hike early in the morning from the ferry terminal and wandered through the sleepy city until we reached the winding trail up to the plateau.
The course entrance has a neat parking lot as well as restrooms. Also, you can see quite far after just walking a short bit so if you aren't confident in your hiking abilities feel free to stop here and enjoy the view instead.
There was an old course which led to the top of Peach Rock but I was informed by my coworkers it was no longer accessible so please be careful and only follow marked routes.
The winds were very strong and we could see the white cap of the waves from atop the ridge. The course ends with a lovely green forest as well as a good view of the lighthouse I highly recommend it.
By the way, the course is named after the so called Peach Rock, but does the rock really look like a peach???

March 2026 — Arriving to Rebun Island
Hello! I'm an American who has been living in Japan for the last 4 years.
I recently moved to Rebun to help out with Rebun Island Tourism Association's efforts to revitalize the island.
When I was young, my grandparents had a cabin in Homer, Alaska. When I would visit, I could see fishermen enjoying a very simple, but profound way of life.
Here on this island, I can see that lifestyle again. Despite being from America, I feel oddly nostalgic for this small island.
I guess it goes to show that some human experiences are universal, regardless of what country you were born in. I hope everyone can experience this relaxing nostalgia on Rebun island.

We are asking our English speaking friends to take a quick survey about what interests them most in Rebun Island. If you have the time, please fill it out. It only takes about 2 minutes.

Most of the island's restaurants are clustered in Kafuka Port in the south, many just a short walk from the ferry terminal.
The island's only convenience store is a bit of a distance from the city centre, so if you're hungry or need anything before you travel we recommend using the local shops near Kafuka Port.

Rebun Island is famous for its spectacular natural scenery. There are seven hiking trails across the island, each offering a wonderful way to enjoy the island's wild landscapes.
Beyond the seven trails, there are many other sightseeing spots to explore. Check the tourism brochure, or official website for more information — both have content available in English!

More information about individual accommodations on Rebun Island can be found on the official Rebun Island website.
Most accomodations are either in the Kafuka area near the ferry port or the Funadomari area in the north of the island.
Some guesthouses offer pick-up and drop-off services, but, not all so please check directly with each establishment for details.
If you need the original Japanese names for any accommodation, you can refer to the Japanese tourism brochure PDF on the official Rebun Island website. You can copy and paste the text if needed.

There are three ways to get around the island: either taking the bus, taking a taxi or renting a car.
The public bus stops at Kafuka Port Ferry Terminal, so it's a convenient place to start your journey around the island.
There are also two sightseeing bus departures — one in the morning and one in the afternoon — but they follow different routes, so make sure you know which bus to book and where they depart from.
You can book sightseeing bus tickets by phone, in person at the counter on the first floor of the ferry terminal, or online. The ticket window is on the ground floor of the ferry terminal, to the left of the ferry ticket booths.
The sightseeing bus ticket window opens only 30 minutes before departure. So, if you plan to buy tickets on the day, please make sure of the timing from the official website.
For rental cars, Toyota Rent-a-Car provides a car hire service on the island.
Next to Toyota, Cat Rock offers bicycle and motorbike rentals.
Both shops are very close to the ferry terminal — roughly a one-to-two-minute walk from the main exit of Kafuka Port Ferry Terminal, diagonally across the road.
